About us

Who we are

The Partnership to End Cervical Cancer is a broad-based coalition of nearly 40 established organizations and individuals with the resources and expertise to reach women throughout the United States. Members comprise medical and public health experts with the ability to affect public health behavior and policy change.

Partnership leadership

Steering Committee leadership

The Partnership is led by a Steering Committee comprising the Society for Women’s Health Research, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and Sabin Vaccine Institute, with support from GlaxoSmithKline.

Committee leadership

The Partnership identified four major barriers impeding women’s access to cervical cancer vaccination and screening in the United States and established committees to spearhead activities that address each barrier. Each committee is led by a representative from a member organization with expertise in that particular area.

Health Disparities Committee
Chair
Carlos Ugarte
Senior health advisor
National Council of La Raza

The Health Disparities Committee is working to address health disparities among women in underserved communities, with a focus on access to cervical cancer vaccination and screening. Because cervical cancer deaths disproportionately occur in women of certain populations and geographic regions in the United States (e.g., African-American women in the South, Hispanic women along the Texas-Mexico border, white women in Appalachia, American Indians of the Northern Plains, Vietnamese-American women and Alaska Natives), this committee is working to ensure that all communities have equal access to the benefits of cervical cancer vaccination and screening.

Access/Coverage for Vaccines Committee
Chair
John M. Clymer
President
Partnership for Prevention

The Access/Coverage for Vaccines Committee is working to educate public and private insurers about the benefits of cervical cancer vaccination and screening for populations without access to routine preventive healthcare.

Medical Home for Adult Women Vaccination
Chair
Stanley Gall, M.D., F.A.C.O.G.
American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists' representative to the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices
Professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Women's Health
Professor of Public Health and Informational Sciences
Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Women's Health
University of Louisville School of Medicine

The Medical Home for Adult Women Vaccination Committee is working with leading medical organizations to identify the most appropriate settings to vaccinate women to ensure access to cervical cancer vaccination, as well as focusing on increasing awareness among healthcare professionals of the benefits of cervical cancer vaccination when added to existing screening programs.

Cervical Cancer Education Committee
Chair
Deborah Arrindell
Vice president, Health Policy
American Social Health Association

The Cervical Cancer Education Committee is working to promote a widespread understanding of cervical cancer and the necessity of cervical cancer screening and vaccination as part of routine preventive healthcare for women in the United States, as the disease is not widely understood or even recognized as a threat in the United States. It aims to reach women of all socio-economic levels in a culturally appropriate way.
